Do lawyers use private detectives?

Yes. All the time. If you already have an attorney please ask him to contact me directly. If you need an attorney I can recommend one based on our private consultation.

Do private investigators help police?

Yes and no. Sometimes we're on the same side and sometimes, such as criminal defense cases, were on opposite sides.

Can a police officer also be a Private Investigator in California?

Yes, but only if the law enforcement agency allows the police office to engage in off duty activies which include being a private investigator. To be sure you can always call the police department and ask. Many law enforcement agencies specifically prohibit officers in engaging in any activity that causes them to act in the capacity of a private investigator or body guard because it could be a conflict of interest.

Do private investigators share evidence with police?

Yes, sometimes, but on a case by case basis. In every case it would be only with approval from the client or client's attorney.

Do private investigators report to the police or tell police they're in the area?

Some do, most don't. That's an individual choice. There is no law, however, some departments request or suggest that private investigators working within their jurisdiction notify that particular law enforecement agency to avoid any possible misunderstandings.
